A YEAR TO REMEMBER

A YEAR TO REMEMBER

2020 has been an eventful year for us all. Thank you for your continued support of Lewis Eady Music School despite all the curveballs thrown our way.

With that, I have some big news to share with the Music School family…

Welcome to the other side!

Welcome to the other side!

Alert Levels have certainly kept us all (teachers, admin, parents and students!) on our toes this year. Thank you for staying with us as we moved our music lessons online during both Lockdown periods and for embracing your online lessons when we were unable to see you in person. Whilst we are grateful that technology allows us to continue teaching when face-to-face lessons aren’t possible, we really do love seeing you on the other side of Lockdown - in person again!

MUSIC, WHEREVER YOU ARE

MUSIC, WHEREVER YOU ARE

Live Online Music Lessons at Lewis Eady Music School are enabling students to continue making music from the safety of their bubbles as well as providing much-needed income for local musicians during this unprecedented time.

Kicking off 2020 lessons

Kicking off 2020 lessons

Welcome to our new and returning students. We are loving making music happen all across Auckland with a record number of students enrolled with us this term.

Kicking off 2020 lessons has been very rewarding particularly as our teaching team is now highlighted by a group of teachers who started their musical journey with us as students and who are now sharing what they learned with us, and their love of music, as Lewis Eady teachers! We’ve profiled them below.

Thanks for choosing Lewis Eady as your musical partner this year.

Happy Music Making!

Practice is Key

Practice is Key

Welcome to all new students who have joined us in the first term and welcome back returning musicians!

I love calling in to our Great South Road studios during the week. There’s always so much exciting sound and musical progress being made by everyone - primary to tertiary students, our teachers, adult learners - some taking first steps, others continuing a lifelong passion.

No matter what stage you are at in your musical journey, practice is the key to good progress. Now is a good time to check that your/your child’s practice is the most effective and efficient it can be.

We’ve included some tips below that will set you up for this - whether you are a student or a committed parent supporting your child’s musical progress.

Practice, Preparation and Nerves

Practice, Preparation and Nerves

I write this sitting at VTNZ waiting for one of my children to sit her driver’s licence test.  There’s lots of nervous energy in this place (both from parents and potential drivers!) and excited anticipation as each young person presents their papers and waits their turn.  I can’t help but compare this to a music concert – practice, preparation and nerves all leading up to this event.  Of course, we are hoping for a successful result, however, the learning that will take place from a performance that ‘could be better’ will just be as valuable.  Your child’s concert will be a significant event for them (as will this driving test for my daughter).
Enjoy and celebrate!

Music framed my childhood

Music framed my childhood

As a child, I always knew my Dad was happy and where to find him by his whistling.  He whistled while he worked, while he was in the garden when he was out walking,  anywhere.  And I knew if Mum was super happy because she would crank up one of her many Tchaikovsky ballet recordings (she was a ballet teacher) so the whole neighbourhood could hear it...

PLAY, PLAY, PLAY...

PLAY, PLAY, PLAY...

MAKE PRACTISE FUN!

I recently asked one of our teaching team what she thought might be useful for parents to know which would help with their child’s music lessons.

She gave three suggestions...
