Julia Deans is one of our countries most versatile performers. Not content with just penning some of New Zealand’s most evocative songs for over twenty years and counting (see Man In A Box, Beautiful or Lydia), Ms. Deans has seamlessly switched between our indie rock scene and dazzling audiences on the theatre stage. Her performance as Mary Magdalene in Auckland Theatre Company’s Jesus Christ Superstar won rave reviews and she swiftly became an Arts Festival darling appearing in such shows as Brel: The Music Of Jacques Brel, Both Sides Now: Julia Deans Sings Joni Mitchell  and David Bowie STARMAN: The APO Performs Bowie’s Greatest Music. Did I mention John Toogood’s group The Adults? Julia also features heavily in this star studded group as well. Phew, I’m tired just thinking about it all!

Hailing from the draughty plains of Canterbury and cutting her teeth in Wellington in the late 90s, Julia first rose to national acclaim with Fur Patrol, a band that highlighted her knack for melodic hooks, soaring vocal ability and infectious magnetism. Number 1 hit singles, NZ Music Awards, Silver Scroll nominations, countless successful tours… you name it Julia achieved it with Fur Patrol.

2010 was a bumper year for Deans, a year that saw the birth of her debut EP A New Dialogue, and her debut album Modern Fables. Both releases showcased a less rock driven sound, allowing her vocal prowess to sit front and centre while instrumentally experimenting with texture and dynamics. Last year Julia released her second solo album We Light Fire to critical acclaim and followed it with a successful national tour with an all-star band. The album has an over arcing feel of positivity and togetherness throughout its ten songs yet each one stands alone sonically, making for an interesting and diverse listen.

One of NZ entertainments true chameleons Julia will pick songs from her extensive back catalogue to bring you an intimate solo performance right here in the comfort of our showroom. Booking is essential tickets include a complimentary drink and nibbles upon arrival.
