Welcome to all new students who have joined us in the first term and welcome back returning musicians!  

I love calling in to our Great South Road studios during the week.  There’s always so much exciting sound and musical progress being made by everyone - primary to tertiary students, our teachers, adult learners - some taking first steps, others continuing a lifelong passion. 

No matter what stage you are at in your musical journey, practice is the key to good progress. Now is a good time to check that your/your child’s practice is the most effective and efficient it can be.  

We’ve included some tips below that will set you up for this - whether you are a student or a committed parent supporting your child’s musical progress.

Once your child has been scheduled for music lessons that day/time is reserved for your child until the end of the year or until you let us know in writing that you no longer require the lessons.

MEET OUR TEACHERS

We are very proud of our teaching team of more than 40! Each is a talented and committed musician who loves sharing their musical knowledge.  You’ll find a bio and photo of every teacher (returning faces and new faces) on the ‘Teachers’ page of our website.

Scott Thomas joined Lewis Eady Music School 2010 and teaches woodwind, brass and guitar for us at Ponsonby Primary School, Kowhai Intermediate and at our Epsom studios. Scott recently returned to New Zealand after a year away in Europe where he was working as a full time touring musician with German band - Smalltape and US/German band - Alex's Hand.

Scott completed a Bachelor of Music majoring in jazz saxophone in 2011 and has since been a regular performer around Auckland and New Zealand in bands (House of Shem, Fortress Europe, Queen City Big Band and more) and as a theatre musician (including Auckland Theatre Company's "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Guys and Dolls", "Amadeus" and Silo Theatre's "Peter and the Wolf"). As an instrumental tutor Scott teaches saxophone, flute and clarinet as well as guitar, ukulele and brass.

Sarah Luethi rejoined Lewis Eady in 2017 after spending a few years in her homeland Switzerland (and now a proud mum of two beautiful children)!  She finished studying contemporary music and performance at MAINZ (Music and Audio Institute of NZ) in 2004 and since then has been teaching music at many different levels including one-on-one piano to both adults and children, keyboard groups and has held music specialist roles in high schools, primary schools and early childhood centres both here and overseas.

Sarah has been part of various band projects singing and playing keyboard.  Her last two bands toured and performed around Switzerland.
Teaching is Sarah’s passion.  She loves passing her love of music on to others.  Sarah currently teaches Musical Jam, piano and keyboard at Bayfield and Westmere Primary Schools.

MUM I’M JOINING A BAND!

Don’t freak out if your child comes home one day to tell you they’re taking over the garage to start a band, advises Miranda Rocca.

Here’s why being in a band is actually a great idea.

Alongside sport, what I remember most vividly and fondly about my school years are my music experiences. I was one of the lucky ones who got to learn an instrument at school. I loved going to lessons, learning a new piece each week, and practising in between. This required a lot of time spent alone, which I was fine with, but the most memorable moments came when making music with others: Accompanying singing and playing in the school orchestra at events and school productions. Being in a band – whether it’s a rock band, a ukulele band, a school orchestra, or a duo – offers an opportunity to use music knowledge and experience but, equally, develops skills that are transferable to other parts of life… >
